Tactical Shotgun Instructor This course will be modified to the level of expertise in the audience and can be adapted in the classroom for multiple levels of experience and understanding. Training Goals and Objectives This course is specifically designed for the existing law enforcement, private security, or military firearms instructor who may require an enhanced knowledge of the combat shotgun and its applications in critical, real world situations. Additionally, this course is designed to provide a solid understanding of adult education and methods of instruction as they pertain to the field of firearms and force application. Students will also learn acceptable and legally defendable methods of subject control, use of force, and weapon retention. Practical application exercises are combined with stimulus/response conditioning principals and the development of a winning mindset. The course will be directed at a multi agency/multi disciplinary approach to tactical operations. Several areas will be addressed; each area by it self is an area of expertise requiring detailed individual course instruction. Training Audience, Format and Content This is an advanced skill development course designed for the armed professional currently engaged in tactical operations or initiating a tactical program, at the law enforcement or military level. This course is most successful when taught and received with audiences of 30 officers or fewer, but has been given in groups of 100 or more with successful reviews. The smaller groups enable officers to have more direct dialog & contact with the instructors and the other students. The course is designed in 5 day sessions with each day involving the exploration of a different topic and the reinforcement of previous learned material. The course is generally designed to run from 0800 to 1800 hours daily, but can be manipulated for evenings and extended days as needed. Auto loading shotguns Range work Day Three: Review of day 2 Developing range exercises Cover & Concealment Movement Multiple targets Range work Day Four: Review of day 3 Methods of instruction Lesson plan considerations Low light Night range Range work Day Five: Review of day 4 Liability issues Less lethal applications Practical exercises Summary of Week Course Completion Practical Exercise Debriefing Closing There are no pre-requisites to this course. Evaluation The evaluation process will consist of class participation and active involvement in class exercises. Limitations / Special Needs: None Any audio/visual or POSTC/Academy facility or staff needs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis, but might include the use of an electronic projection unit, VCR, audio or marker board materials. Student Materials Depending on student understanding, a wide range of video, audio and PowerPoint presentations will be used in the training session, and the instructors will come prepared with everything they will need to make this an informative, fast-paced learning experience. The materials will range from commercially driven video, personal case studies of the instructors, live fire exercises, and detailed hands on training exercises. Detailed lesson plans are available as needed, and copies of the course PowerPoint presentations will be available to those in attendance. Required Equipment Duty handgun with a minimum of 3 magazines Eye protection Hearing protection Billed cap (ball cap, boonie hat, etc) Knee pads (optional, but advisable) Elbow pads (optional, but advisable) 400 rounds of ammunition for handgun 400 rounds of buckshot 200 rounds of rifle slug 600 rounds of field or trap loads Evaluations of Past Courses Evaluations of past presentations are available upon request if this material and telephonic interviews are not satisfactory.
