Property and Evidence Room Management

 

This program will provide each participant with critical information to develop, enhance, or restructure your agencies property / evidence storage facility, placing your property and evidence storage facility meeting or exceeding the standards set by (CALEA) Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

 

Training Goals and Objectives

This program will provide each participant with critical information to develop, enhance, or restructure your agencies property / evidence storage facility, placing your property and evidence storage facility meeting or exceeding the standards set by (CALEA) Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Your agency, regardless of size can glean enough information to establish a property warehouse facility.

 

This training ultimately ensures proper presentation for judicial proceedings and eventual disposal. Participants will obtain a working knowledge of the following standards:

Training Audience, Format and Content

A (2) two-day course for inexperienced and newly appointed law enforcement Property or Evidence Custodians. This course is intended for various levels of experienced crime scene investigators, homicide detectives, sworn law enforcement officers, rape detectives, arson investigators, domestic violence investigators and other law enforcement agency personnel.   The intent of the trainer is to provide information on the tools and conditions to have a safe, secure and operational property and evidence control. Introduce the student to the techniques used in the field and adapt the skills to successfully incorporate these techniques in their agencies property and evidence room.

 

This course is most successful when taught and received by audiences of 40 officers or fewer, but has been given in groups of 50 or more with successful reviews.

  •            Property and Evidence Control

  •            OSHA Standards

  •            Hazardous Materials in the Workplace

  •            Property Warehouse Standards

  •            State Property Seizure Laws

Day Two

  •         Policy on Officer Property Submission

·         Confiscated Currency and Valuables

·         Evidence, Chain of Custody

·         Firearms, Handling and Marking

·         Firearms / Tool mark Examination

·         Forensic Examinations

·         Property Record Files / Forms         

·         Court Presentation

·         Property of Deceased Persons

·         Property Clearance / Disposal

·         Narcotics / Paraphernalia Destruction

·         Owner Notifications and Release

·         Seized Weapons

·         Special Property

·         Storage Area Procedures

This course has NO pre-requisites!

 

Evaluation

 

The evaluation process will consist of class participation, active involvement in property and evidence forms, case reviews and visual recognition information.

 

Cost:  (2) day course consisting of two (8-hour) days: 

 

Limitations / Special Needs:

 

Any audio/visual or POSTC/Academy facility or staff needs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis, but might include the use of an electronic projection unit, audio or marker board materials. 

 

Student Materials

 

Student materials will involve copies of the 37 page custom manual “Property and Evidence Room Management

 

PowerPoint presentations will be used in the training session; the trainer will bring sample forms and additional information.
